About us and our programme

At Raumati Beach Kindergarten/Te Māra Tamariki o te Tātahi o Raumati, we value the relationships we have with our tamariki, their whānau, our local community, our local schools, and our local environment - Raumati Beach.

Our bicultural practice is supported by weekly Kapa Haka sessions led by kaiako Matiu Te Huki.

Our vision statement:

“We respect and enhance the mana of every child in an environment of kind and caring relationships:

  • with each other/ngā hononga
  • with our community/whanaungatanga
  • with our environment/kaitiakitanga
  • and with our place/tangata whenuatanga.”

Mana: We see mana as the power and potential the child brings with them. (He Pou Tātaki, MOE 2013).

We have a strong focus on supporting children to develop kind, caring and respectful relationships. We have kōhatu/stones which we use with the children to acknowledge their learning around relationship building and our philosophy.

We run a Beach Kindergarten Programme, taking our ten oldest children down to explore and learn about our local beach environment once a week.

We value our relationships with the local schools and have a comprehensive research-based transition to school programme.

We have a team of five qualified, registered kaiako/teachers committed to providing the highest quality of education and care to the tamariki/children and whānau/families in our community.
