About us and our programme

Ohakune Kindergarten borders Tongariro National Park and we take advantage of our mountain location, respecting koro Ruapehu. Kindergarten children spend a lot of time outdoors in all kinds of weather and look forward to snow each year.

Ohakune has a strong bicultural programme and links with Ngati Rangi.

Ko Ruapehu te maunga, te maunga koro.
Ko Aotea te waka te waka tere,
Ko Mangawhero te awa,te hukapapa
Ko Ngati Rangi te iwi, no te whenua nei.

Our success is built on these foundations:

  • a warm, friendly environment that is challenging and stimulating
  • consistent positive practices developed through conversations
  • respectful relationships with children, whānau, staff and community
  • practices that are inclusive
  • fun!
