Whānau Manaaki has submitted a response to the government’s proposed changes to the licensing criteria for early childhood education.

The changes are in a discussion document called “Modernising early childhood education in Aotearoa New Zealand”, and relate to criteria dealing with health and safety, premises and facilities, and government and management.

There are 83 criteria involved, and the document recommends changes to 60 of them.

Whānau Manaaki finds many of the 60 changes acceptable with modifications, but we oppose 18 of them, for reasons of health and safety or providing a quality service.

Teachers and staff in the early childhood sector are able to submit their feedback about licensing changes to the Ministry of Education before 12pm July 24.

NZEI Te Riu Roa have developed resources for staff to understand what the changes mean, along with a tool that staff can use to easily submit feedback.
