The Labour candidate for the new Kāpiti electorate, Sophie Handford, visited Whānau Manaaki’s Porirua office last week to find out more about our programmes and policies that affect education.

Sophie grew up in Kāpiti and was one of the leaders for the School Strike for Climate movement when she was at Kapiti College. She was a youth MP, representing the electorate of then Mana MP Kris Faafoi.

Sophie has been on the Kāpiti Coast District Council, and when elected at the age of 18 was one of the youngest councillors ever. She had already visited Adventure Kindergarten and Discovery Kindergarten and is keen to visit more kindergartens in the Kāpiti electorate.

Whānau Manaaki encourages MP's and political candidates to visit all our kindergartens, and to find out about the importance of high-quality early childhood education and the policies that support this.
