At least eight MPs from Labour, Greens and Te Pati Māori were at parliament today to receive the NZEI petition against cutting regulations in early childhood education.

The petition was handed over by tamariki from Capital Kids Cooperative, who introduced themselves, giving their pepeha before handing over the box of signatures.

MPs from each of the parties represented gave their commitment to ensuring quality early childhood education and the regulations that reflect that.

Other petition handover events are taking place in several electorates around the country including in Wellington's northern suburbs.

Whānau and kaiako from kindergarten communities in Johnsonville, Wellington plan to present the petition to Nicola Willis's office this afternoon.
